Brexitland – An Educational Failure

The Brexitland press is full of news stories about exam results which are based upon ‘predicted results’, and algorithm predictions.

Yet it should also be remembered that the exam results issue is a total distraction from the fact that 1 in 7 of the adult population are still to a greater of lesser extent Functionally Illiterate.

Keep in mind that the 1 in 7 do make up a very high percentage of the long term unemployed.

It is this 1 in 7 who we need to focus our attention upon, as their future is now extremely grim.

They are the ones who will not be able to benefit by remote learning.

They are also the people who just not able to read all the health care messages which are being issued.

What Next ?

While no thought is being given to the very intensive one2one adult literacy classes which are now suspended, especially are many of the older ex teachers who could do such training are still in self isolation.

If the issue which we now face is long term economic decline, with high unemployment levels, then some serious thinking about this use needs to be done.

A good start to solving this problem might be to train more adult literacy teachers.
