The overriding mood in Britain the during spring of 1982 was
\nthat of Jingoism, nationalism, & militarism.<\/p>\n
The Falkland Islands had been invaded by the Argentina
\nmilitary,
\n& Britain was at War.<\/p>\n
In between the Jingoism, nationalism, & militarism: –
\nThere were a few of us who were engaged in
\nAnti Falkland War Activities.<\/p>\n
Over the few months of the war there were a lot of small
\nscale demonstrations,
\nand three national marches against the war.<\/p>\n
Upon one of these demonstrations I was photographed in the
\ncompany of my comrades from Greenpeace ( London ).
\nThis photo appeared on the front page of the Morning Star –
\nMonday May 10th 1982.<\/p>\n
During the period between may day 1982 & the ‘victory parade’
\non oct 12 of that year:
\nSome circa 118 people were arrested for Anti-Falkland war
\nactivities.<\/p>\n
Most of these arrests were for small scale,
\nor symbolic actions against the war.<\/p>\n
Some \u00a3515 was raised in donations to cover their fines &
\nother legal costs.<\/p>\n
These figures come from bulletin no 6 of the anti-Falklands
\nwar support network (March 1983 ), in which I was involved.<\/p>\n
This support network was founded on may 24th 1982,
\nand held its last meeting on February 28th 1983.<\/p>\n
The Peace Pledge Union ( P.P.U. ) was engaged in activities
\nagainst the war,
\nas was London Peace Action,
\n&
\nGreenpeace ( London ).<\/p>\n
Peace News published various news stories and back ground
\narticles upon the situation during the time of the war.<\/p>\n
Since then very little has been published about this small
\ngrass root opposition to the Falkland War.<\/p>\n
