{"id":133,"date":"2009-03-29T06:01:47","date_gmt":"2009-03-29T06:01:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rahu.dk\/martynlowe\/?p=133"},"modified":"2010-06-27T05:46:24","modified_gmt":"2010-06-27T05:46:24","slug":"words","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.theproject.me.uk\/?p=133","title":{"rendered":"Words."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve been thinking about the use of various words of late.<\/p>\n<p>One of the reasons for doing so is because I spent a couple of days during this month at a language school to the South of Madrid:<\/p>\n<p>I was talking to some of the students about Cockney Rhyming slang,<br \/>\nand aspects of the everyday use of the various languages which one hears within London.<\/p>\n<p>Now I discover that the British Local Government Association<br \/>\nhas produced a list of: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lga.gov.uk\/lga\/core\/page.do?pageId=1716341\" target=\"_blank\"><br \/>\n200 words and phrases<\/a> that all public sector bodies should avoid when talking to people about the work they do and the services they provide.<\/p>\n<p>Here is an example of just what is to be found within this list:<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Baseline &#8211; starting point<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Customer &#8211; people\/person<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Outsourced &#8211; privatised<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Rationalisation &#8211; cut<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Revenue Streams &#8211; money.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Slippage &#8211; delay.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Thinking outside of the box &#8211; Why use at all?<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s refreshing to read that at long last there is an attempt to curtail the use of so many of these detested corporate terms.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve been thinking about the use of various words of late.
