{"id":136,"date":"2009-04-05T06:10:40","date_gmt":"2009-04-05T06:10:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rahu.dk\/martynlowe\/?p=136"},"modified":"2010-01-11T07:36:35","modified_gmt":"2010-01-11T07:36:35","slug":"saving-the-whale-part-1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.theproject.me.uk\/?p=136","title":{"rendered":"Saving the Whale &#8211; Part 1."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A little of my own history.<\/p>\n<p>It was in June of either 1972 or 1973* that I stood on a small<br \/>\npicket line outside of the annual meeting venue of the<br \/>\nInternational Whaling Commission ( IWC ).<\/p>\n<p>Most of the picket line seemed to be staff members of Friends<br \/>\nof the Earth.<\/p>\n<p>The Japanese delegation turned up for the afternoon session<br \/>\nwhile I was standing in line. They just glared at the<br \/>\ndemonstration, and went straight in to the building.<\/p>\n<p>The well known British Naturalist Peter Scot turned up,<br \/>\nand greeted every one who was on the picket line.<\/p>\n<p>I had first become aware of the plight of whales from having<br \/>\nseen an advertisement by the Moby Dick Society,<br \/>\nwhich had been placed in War Resisters League magazine Win .<\/p>\n<p>In subsequence years I followed and publicised the<br \/>\nanti-whaling activities of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.seashepherd.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Sea Shepherd<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>This weekend I was told that the are moves in Iceland to<br \/>\ncurtail its whaling industry.<\/p>\n<p>I should have more information upon this within the next two<br \/>\nweeks,<br \/>\nand will share it with you all.<\/p>\n<p>* This is just another fine example of my memory at work.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A little of my own history.
