During the 1960s there used to be a saying:
\n‘We are the people our parents warned us against’.<\/p>\n
Now we might just of turned this saying in to:-<\/p>\n
We Are the People We Warned Our Parents Against.<\/p>\n
Both of these sayings are warnings about both change for the
\nsake of change, and not having a fluidity of mind to change
\nthings as they need to be changed.<\/p>\n
The problem being that as a lot of people become older they
\nbecome more conservative.<\/p>\n
Yet this is not so much a conservatism,
\nas a reaction to all of those new dangers that abound,
\nor it could just be a very human inability to adapt to the
\nchanges in the world around one.<\/p>\n
The other side of this equation being that much that is called
\nchange is not more than just fashion changes,
\nor the natural evolution of technical improvements.<\/p>\n
For instance:
\nIn the fashion industry there has been a lot of changes over
\nthe last 50 years as the result of new materials,
\nand new mass production techniques.<\/p>\n
What is true of the fashion industry is also true of other
\nindustries too.<\/p>\n
Yet very few political or economic forecasters have any
\nreally useful analysis of just how these changes are
\neffecting what has just taken place,
\nor what is about to take place,
\nwithin both the economy or society at large.<\/p>\n
Now just add all that to our present social, economic,
\necological, political,
\nand what you get is some very unclear thinking indeed.<\/p>\n
The natural instinct of people being to just focus in the
\nimmediate crisis,
\nthere is very little thinking upon just what we might need to do
\nin terms of any long term solutions.<\/p>\n
This kind of short term thinking can result in protectionism,
\nimmigration controls, or a failure to invest in ecologically
\nsound energy projects.<\/p>\n
That is why we all need to rethink just what we are about,
\nand why I call myself a radical pragmatist.<\/p>\n
Perhaps we all need to be warned about ourselves,
\nbut lets not get carried away that way.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
