{"id":167,"date":"2009-07-02T06:29:07","date_gmt":"2009-07-02T06:29:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rahu.dk\/martynlowe\/?p=167"},"modified":"2010-05-29T14:15:46","modified_gmt":"2010-05-29T14:15:46","slug":"the-sharpness-action","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.theproject.me.uk\/?p=167","title":{"rendered":"The Sharpness Action."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Shapness Action was a Nonviolent Airect Action that<br \/>\nmany people know nothing about.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gloucesterdocks.me.uk\/sharpness\/docks.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Sharpness Docks<\/a> is at the enterence to the Gloucester Canal.<\/p>\n<p>It was there on the Fourth of July 1979 that I took part in an<br \/>\naction which held up the loading of low level nukiller waste<br \/>\nwhich was destined to be dumped at sea.<\/p>\n<p>It was this action, and the following one in 1980,<br \/>\nwhich focused a lot of attention upon the issue of how<br \/>\nnukiller waste was being dumped at sea,<br \/>\nand helped to stop this practice.<\/p>\n<p>While the action managed to generate a lot of publicity upon<br \/>\nthe issue, there were many unplanned aspects to it.<\/p>\n<p>These included:<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; being held by the police on the way to the docks.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Having no one in their pre-planned locations when the<br \/>\nshipment was transported in to the docks.<\/p>\n<p>and<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; A spontanious sit down in front of the dock yard train.<\/p>\n<p>I wrote a long report upon this action which appeared in the<br \/>\nAnarchist paper Freedom on July 28th 1979.<\/p>\n<p>The photos I took during the action are now with my archive at<br \/>\nthe International Institute of Social History in Amsterdam.<\/p>\n<p>I recently wrote a long analytical piece about just what<br \/>\nhappened on the action,<br \/>\nor just what went wrong at the time.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ll write more upon this subject once this article is published<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Shapness Action was a Nonviolent Airect Action that many people know nothing about.
