Library & Information workers get below average incomes,
\nbut most will get a pension after years of service.<\/p>\n
Such pensions are based upon years of hard work on low pay,
\nand the below average wage which they may be receiving at
\nthe point of retirement.<\/p>\n
The deal being that one will put up with such low pay in
\nexchange for a pension that will lift one above the penury
\nwhich is the state pension.<\/p>\n
Now some clever investors are claiming that this is an
\nunreasonable deal for the tax-payer.<\/p>\n
Well you can’t have it both ways!<\/p>\n
Either you start to pay the real economic worth of library
\nworkers during a working life,
\nor
\nyou pay what is not an unreasonable pension.<\/p>\n
Though it might also be remembered that:<\/p>\n
– All pensions are paid for over a working life time by those
\nwho receive these pensions.<\/p>\n
&<\/p>\n
– A pension is a form of savings during ones working life, which is withdrawn in stages after one retires.<\/p>\n
So it is not the tax-payer who is funding these pensions,
\nbut the workers themselves.<\/p>\n
If anything does need to be done in terms of pension reform,
\nthen it should be the ending the spouse or partners
\nallowance.<\/p>\n
Such an allowance is a form of Discrimination against single
\npeople.<\/p>\n
This would also release a lot of money which could be better
\nused to make sure that everyone who has a pension might
\ncontinue to do so,
\nand increase the level of pension pay-outs for all.<\/p>\n
