{"id":179,"date":"2009-08-26T07:05:04","date_gmt":"2009-08-26T07:05:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rahu.dk\/martynlowe\/?p=179"},"modified":"2010-05-29T12:15:38","modified_gmt":"2010-05-29T12:15:38","slug":"pensions-library-workers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.theproject.me.uk\/?p=179","title":{"rendered":"Pensions &#038; Library Workers."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Here is The Deal.<\/p>\n<p>Library &amp; Information workers get below average incomes,<br \/>\nbut most will get a pension after years of service.<\/p>\n<p>Such pensions are based upon years of hard work on low pay,<br \/>\nand the below average wage which they may be receiving at<br \/>\nthe point of retirement.<\/p>\n<p>The deal being that one will put up with such low pay in<br \/>\nexchange for a pension that will lift one above the penury<br \/>\nwhich is the state pension.<\/p>\n<p>Now some clever investors are claiming that this is an<br \/>\nunreasonable deal for the tax-payer.<\/p>\n<p>Well you can&#8217;t have it both ways!<\/p>\n<p>Either you start to pay the real economic worth of library<br \/>\nworkers during a working life,<br \/>\nor<br \/>\nyou pay what is not an unreasonable pension.<\/p>\n<p>Though it might also be remembered that:<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; All pensions are paid for over a working life time by those<br \/>\nwho receive these pensions.<\/p>\n<p>&amp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; A pension is a form of savings during ones working life, which is withdrawn in stages after one retires.<\/p>\n<p>So it is not the tax-payer who is funding these pensions,<br \/>\nbut the workers themselves.<\/p>\n<p>If anything does need to be done in terms of pension reform,<br \/>\nthen it should be the ending the spouse or partners<br \/>\nallowance.<\/p>\n<p>Such an allowance is a form of Discrimination against single<br \/>\npeople.<\/p>\n<p>This would also release a lot of money which could be better<br \/>\nused to make sure that everyone who has a pension might<br \/>\ncontinue to do so,<br \/>\nand increase the level of pension pay-outs for all.<\/p>\n<p>Enough said &#8230;&#8230;..
