Over the years there have been many efforts to develop
\nbetter descriptive signage within libraries.<\/p>\n
In the old days this was so simple to achieve,
\nas there were only a few departments within each library:
\nFiction,
\nNon Fiction,
\nReference,
\n&
\nChildren’s library.<\/p>\n
Things change. . . .<\/p>\n
Now what really confuses a lot of library uses is that there
\nwould seem to be less and less of a distinction between the
\nreference and lending areas within most modern library
\nbuilding.<\/p>\n
This is especially true as we often find reference periodicals
\nwith the lending areas,
\nwhile in many libraries there are very often no distinct music
\nor AV ( Audio Vision ) departments.<\/p>\n
Is it any wonder that people are both unable to distinguish
\nbetween what are the Fiction or Nonfiction areas within most
\nlibraries.*1<\/p>\n
This also says nothing about the problems which they might
\nexperience in trying to work out just what are the quiet study
\nareas.<\/p>\n
So here is a quick and useful guide as to just how library areas
\nmight be marketed*2
\nwithin the libraries of the future.<\/p>\n
– The Reality Zone.
\nInstead of Nonfiction.<\/p>\n
– Pure Fiction.
\nFor all works of fiction.<\/p>\n
– The Twilight Zone.
\nThis being a playful reference to any teenage area.<\/p>\n
– Kiddies Corner.
\nor where the children are to be found.<\/p>\n
&<\/p>\n
– Shhhhooooooooosh !!!!!!!!!!
\nThe quiet zone or study area.<\/p>\n
Now what other ideas do you have upon what might be added to
\nthis list?<\/p>\n
