{"id":204,"date":"2010-01-15T06:30:49","date_gmt":"2010-01-15T06:30:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rahu.dk\/martynlowe\/?p=204"},"modified":"2010-05-29T13:33:18","modified_gmt":"2010-05-29T13:33:18","slug":"naming-and-renaming","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.theproject.me.uk\/?p=204","title":{"rendered":"Naming and Renaming."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Over the years there have been many efforts to develop<br \/>\nbetter descriptive signage within libraries.<\/p>\n<p>In the old days this was so simple to achieve,<br \/>\nas there were only a few departments within each library:<br \/>\nFiction,<br \/>\nNon Fiction,<br \/>\nReference,<br \/>\n&amp;<br \/>\nChildren&#8217;s library.<\/p>\n<p>Things change. . . .<\/p>\n<p>Now what really confuses a lot of library uses is that there<br \/>\nwould seem to be less and less of a distinction between the<br \/>\nreference and lending areas within most modern library<br \/>\nbuilding.<\/p>\n<p>This is especially true as we often find reference periodicals<br \/>\nwith the lending areas,<br \/>\nwhile in many libraries there are very often no distinct music<br \/>\nor AV ( Audio Vision ) departments.<\/p>\n<p>Is it any wonder that people are both unable to distinguish<br \/>\nbetween what are the Fiction or Nonfiction areas within most<br \/>\nlibraries.*1<\/p>\n<p>This also says nothing about the problems which they might<br \/>\nexperience in trying to work out just what are the quiet study<br \/>\nareas.<\/p>\n<p>So here is a quick and useful guide as to just how library areas<br \/>\nmight be marketed*2<br \/>\nwithin the libraries of the future.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; The Reality Zone.<br \/>\nInstead of Nonfiction.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Pure Fiction.<br \/>\nFor all works of fiction.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; The Twilight Zone.<br \/>\nThis being a playful reference to any teenage area.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Kiddies Corner.<br \/>\nor where the children are to be found.<\/p>\n<p>&amp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Shhhhooooooooosh !!!!!!!!!!<br \/>\nThe quiet zone or study area.<\/p>\n<p>Now what other ideas do you have upon what might be added to<br \/>\nthis list?<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p>*1<br \/>\nI have also noted that many people are unable to distinguish<br \/>\nbetween what is Fiction and Nonfiction.<br \/>\nThus they will refer to Crime Fiction and True Crime.<\/p>\n<p>*2<br \/>\n&#8216;Marketed&#8217; being both a descriptive and marketing term within<br \/>\nthis context.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Over the years there have been many efforts to develop better descriptive signage within libraries.
