I recently paid a visit to Ely<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In the 22 years since I last paid a visit to the city it was
\nchanged a lot for the better.<\/p>\n

A major restoration of the cathedral has left it looking like
\nthe magnificent building it is,
\nrather that the rather neglected place which I remember it as
\nbeing.<\/p>\n

There is also a stained glass museum within the cathedral
\nwhich I would highly recommend anyone to visit.<\/p>\n

What I found of particular interest is to be found within the
\nLady Chapel,
\nwhich is a very fine example of Gothic architecture.<\/p>\n

At one stage the windows of this chapel was servery damaged
\nand there are now just plain glass windows where formally
\nthere would of been magnificent stained glass windows.<\/p>\n

Should you visit the Lady Chapel then you might notice
\nsomething else which is not \u2018bog standard\u2019 in most cathedral
\nbuildings,
\nfor etched in to the bottom of each window is listed one of the
\nbodies which has help to restore the cathedral,
\nwith with the organisonal symbol or crest placed next to
\ntheir name.<\/p>\n

The first one of these I noted was that of
\nTescos PLC.<\/p>\n

I jest not.<\/p>\n

The other names include:<\/p>\n

– The Marshall of Cambridge.<\/p>\n

– The Mercers Company.<\/p>\n

– The Kings School.<\/p>\n

– British Railway Board.<\/p>\n

plus<\/p>\n

Barclays, Midland, Lloyds, and Trustee savings banks.<\/p>\n

Just how one can justify the inclusion of any references to these corporate bodies as a
\npart of such an important historical building still needs to be seen.<\/p>\n

Cambridge Electronic Instutries<\/a> also have their own window
\nwithin the lady Chapel.<\/p>\n

Cambridge Electronic Industries
\nmanufactures electronic interconnection items.<\/p>\n

It is owned by Wilson-Mottaz Ltd.<\/p>\n
