I\u2019m constantly amazed at just how bad design information can
\nmake life really difficult for us all.<\/p>\n
Here are just a few example which illustrate the point.<\/p>\n
– That one constantly sees posters about the dangers of
\nrunning up & down escalates.<\/p>\n
Yet if I ever have to use a stationary escalator then I get
\nvertigo.<\/p>\n
I\u2019m still waiting to see a sign that says
\nDanger! Stationary Escalator.<\/p>\n
– That self checkout machines in supermarkets are never
\ndesigned so for those of us who want to use our own
\nbackpack?<\/p>\n
I\u2019ve still got to come across one that is designed by someone
\nwho uses ergonomic principles.<\/p>\n
– That there is never any thought given to the needs of
\npedestrians waiting for traffic lights to change.<\/p>\n
I\u2019ve always thought that they should include a rain shelter as
\none can sometimes take an age to wait for the pedestrian light
\nto change green.<\/p>\n
It would also be better if it there was some indication as to
\njust how long one would have to wait before crossing over to
\nthe other opposite pedestrian way.<\/p>\n
These lights do already operate in the Netherlands, and so
\nwhat about bring them in to use in the rest of the world?<\/p>\n
– That those who set the standards on VDU use have never
\nworked out that they do not march up with the very different
\ndistance requirements of those of us who use verifocals.<\/p>\n
Perhaps they should try setting up a working group of those
\nwho use verifocals in order to produce a new set of real
\nworld VDU user standards.<\/p>\n
– That more medications do not have a brail label as a part of
\nthe design upon the packaging.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s not that difficult to do so with modern packaging
\ntechnology.<\/p>\n
Hum – Maybe I should set myself up as a design consultant.<\/p>\n
I couldn\u2019t produce worse results that what some of the
