Some times I thinks about people that I once knew.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s just like keeping a\u00a0 scrapbook that\u2019s full of obituaries,
\nor having a notebook full of information about missing people.<\/p>\n
You may have them in your possession,
\nbut fewer & fewer people you know will of meet the individuals
\nwho are listed in them.<\/p>\n
During this year this observation has really come home to me.<\/p>\n
First of all I got a confirmation about someone I used to know
\nhaving died a few years back.<\/p>\n
Then over the last month or so I have been trying to contact
\nsomeone who I last saw over a quarter of a century go.<\/p>\n
I still can not trace her,
\n& I\u2019ve tryed ever route which I know.<\/p>\n
Over the 60 years that I have been alive we\u2019ve moved on from
\nPaper & Card records, to Microfilm & Micrcofiche, and then to
\nelectronic dates bases.<\/p>\n
Yet just as we have moved on from mainframe to PC to laptop to
\nnetbook, w e have & are constantly changing the software which
\nholds these records.<\/p>\n
I just wish that some of the people who work on computer
\nsoftware would keep in mind the old saying:-
\nIf it ain\u2019t bust then don\u2019t fix it.<\/p>\n
Yet with all of these moves of records have come losses of
\ninformation,
\n& the increasing presumption that \u2018it\u2019s all on the computer.\u2019<\/p>\n
Not so.<\/p>\n
What makes it really difficult in tracing people is that they
\nmight have common names,
\nor be know just by their nickname(s),
\nor changed their surname,
\nand now be living on the side of the world.<\/p>\n
While the phone book, and\u00a0 other directories, give just an initial
\n& surname on the basis that you will already know just where
\nthey live.<\/p>\n
Ever wondered just why the police are always so keen to know
\npeoples date of birth?<\/p>\n
If more directories included this piece of information then it
\nwould be so much easier to trace ones old friends.<\/p>\n
In the meanwhile I\u2019m left looking for other peoples scrapbook
