{"id":392,"date":"2012-05-06T07:35:34","date_gmt":"2012-05-06T07:35:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.theproject.me.uk\/?p=392"},"modified":"2012-05-06T08:14:01","modified_gmt":"2012-05-06T08:14:01","slug":"when-is-a-griffin-not-a-griffin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.theproject.me.uk\/?p=392","title":{"rendered":"When Is A Griffin Not A Griffin?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Griffins.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Griffin\" target=\"_blank\">Griffins<\/a> are mythological creatures which protect the gold.<\/p>\n<p>They are used in the coat of arms of the City of London,<br \/>\n&amp; thus upon the helmets of the City of London police.<\/p>\n<p>Griffins are also used upon the crest of the Civil Nuclear<br \/>\nConstabulary, which is why many anti nukiller activists\u00a0 refer to<br \/>\nthem as Griffins.<br \/>\n<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>A Mix and Match Police Force.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>One of the most interesting trends in policing over the last few<br \/>\nyears has been the way in which police forces help each other out.<\/p>\n<p>For example:<br \/>\nAfter the riots in Haringey last year,<br \/>\nit became very common to see the streets of Turnpike Lane and<br \/>\nWood Green patrolled by none metropolitan police offices.<br \/>\ne.g.<br \/>\nFrom the Strathclyde force,<br \/>\netc, etc.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this year I was on the protest at the Hinkley and Sizewell<br \/>\nnukiller power plant protests.<\/p>\n<p>At Hinkley the local Somerset police were on duty outside of the<br \/>\nplant.<\/p>\n<p>At Sizewell the local Suffolk police were on duty outside of the<br \/>\nplant.<\/p>\n<p>While the security just inside these EDF owned nukiller plants<br \/>\nwas being provided by a private security company.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Shape of the Future Nukiller Police.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Now comes the news that the<a href=\"http:\/\/www.newsandstar.co.uk\/news\/business\/cumbria-police-will-cover-sellafield-site-1.948732?referrerPath=home\" target=\"_blank\"> Cumbrian police are being asked to<br \/>\nprovide security at the Sellafield <\/a>( Windscale ) plant.<\/p>\n<p>This is so that in future:<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.newsandstar.co.uk\/news\/strain-on-resources-claim-1.948179\" target=\"_blank\">\u2018the nuclear constabulary will deal solely with anti-terrorism issues&#8217;.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Boots, Truncheons, &amp; Iodine Tablets.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Apart from the cost aspect of local police forces undertaking to<br \/>\n\u2018protect\u2019 nukiller plants,<br \/>\nthere is another question which comes to my mind.<\/p>\n<p>Given the move towards that mix &amp; match form of policing.<br \/>\nthen will all those police officers who are deployed at nukiller<br \/>\nplants be given extra training and equipment to deal with any<br \/>\nfuture radiation leaks?<\/p>\n<p>Will they now all be provided with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nhs.uk\/news\/2011\/03March\/Pages\/nuclear-accident-in-japan-and-iodine-tablets.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">iodine tablets<\/a>,<br \/>\nor guider counters as part of their standard equipment ?<\/p>\n<p>or<\/p>\n<p>Is this yet another ill thought out set of ideas?<\/p>\n<p>It would be interesting to learn just what rank and file police<br \/>\nofficers think about these issues.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Griffins.
