{"id":407,"date":"2012-05-31T07:39:21","date_gmt":"2012-05-31T07:39:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.theproject.me.uk\/?p=407"},"modified":"2012-05-31T07:39:21","modified_gmt":"2012-05-31T07:39:21","slug":"energy-subsidies-energy-conservation-taxation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.theproject.me.uk\/?p=407","title":{"rendered":"Energy Subsidies &#038; Energy Conservation Taxation."},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Energy Issues.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I keep reading about the high prices which the energy companies<br \/>\ncharge to their customers within Britain.<\/p>\n<p>This is related to the problem of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.poverty.org.uk\/80\/index.shtml\" target=\"_blank\">Fuel Poverty<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>At the same time there is a major debate about energy subsidies.<\/p>\n<p>This goes hand in glove with the idea of giving tax breaks to<br \/>\n\u2018green energy\u2019\u00a0 and carbon capture projects.<\/p>\n<p>The problem about this is that the nukiller industry getting in to<br \/>\nthe act, and erroneously claiming that these power plants help to<br \/>\nhalt climate change.<\/p>\n<p>This is the kind of argument which George Monbiot has fallen for:<br \/>\n&#8211; despite the fact that the mining and transport of uranium contributes to climate change.<\/p>\n<p>Yet take away all of these subsidies,<br \/>\nand what do you get?<\/p>\n<p>The use of solar and windpower as the cheapest form of energy production.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Some Real Alternative To Energy Production. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Of course the real challenge is to cut down upon the use or<br \/>\nenergy,<br \/>\nor better use just what energy we do produce.<\/p>\n<p>This should be done in conjunction with a major push to introduce<br \/>\nbetter energy conservation measures throughout the UK and the world.<\/p>\n<p>Rather than give tax breaks to the energy companies,<br \/>\nit would be much better to put the money in to energy saving<br \/>\nmeasures.<\/p>\n<p>Just cutting VAT ( Value Added Tax ) on <a href=\"http:\/\/renegadeconservatoryguy.co.uk\/tag\/5-vat-double-glazing\/\" target=\"_blank\">double glazing<\/a>,<br \/>\nor sales tax as it known in the rest of the world,<br \/>\nmight be a good starting point.<\/p>\n<p>At present the Energy-saving materials in the UK are <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hmrc.gov.uk\/vat\/forms-rates\/rates\/goods-services.htm\" target=\"_blank\">VAT rated as 5%<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>All energy conservation products should become zero VAT rated !<\/p>\n<p>At the same time a lot of the present problem of fuel poverty,<br \/>\nand pensioners being killed as a result of hypothermia,<br \/>\ncould be alleviated by increasing the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.direct.gov.uk\/en\/pensionsandretirementplanning\/benefits\/benefitsinretirement\/dg_10018657\" target=\"_blank\">Winter Fuel Payment<\/a> from<br \/>\nthe present derisory level of just \u00a3200 a year.<\/p>\n<p>Such measures would be cheaper for us all in both the long and<br \/>\nshort term too.<\/p>\n<p>In the long term all these measures might help to cut down our<br \/>\ntaxes and other expenditures,<br \/>\nand increases the amount which is paid out in pensions.<\/p>\n<p>Thus in turn it would alleviate the whole set of problems which come with fuel poverty.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Energy Issues.
