Energy Issues.<\/strong><\/p>\n

I keep reading about the high prices which the energy companies
\ncharge to their customers within Britain.<\/p>\n

This is related to the problem of Fuel Poverty<\/a>.<\/p>\n

At the same time there is a major debate about energy subsidies.<\/p>\n

This goes hand in glove with the idea of giving tax breaks to
\n\u2018green energy\u2019\u00a0 and carbon capture projects.<\/p>\n

The problem about this is that the nukiller industry getting in to
\nthe act, and erroneously claiming that these power plants help to
\nhalt climate change.<\/p>\n

This is the kind of argument which George Monbiot has fallen for:
\n– despite the fact that the mining and transport of uranium contributes to climate change.<\/p>\n

Yet take away all of these subsidies,
\nand what do you get?<\/p>\n

The use of solar and windpower as the cheapest form of energy production.<\/p>\n

Some Real Alternative To Energy Production. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Of course the real challenge is to cut down upon the use or
\nenergy,
\nor better use just what energy we do produce.<\/p>\n

This should be done in conjunction with a major push to introduce
\nbetter energy conservation measures throughout the UK and the world.<\/p>\n

Rather than give tax breaks to the energy companies,
\nit would be much better to put the money in to energy saving
\nmeasures.<\/p>\n

Just cutting VAT ( Value Added Tax ) on double glazing<\/a>,
\nor sales tax as it known in the rest of the world,
\nmight be a good starting point.<\/p>\n

At present the Energy-saving materials in the UK are VAT rated as 5%<\/a>.<\/p>\n

All energy conservation products should become zero VAT rated !<\/p>\n

At the same time a lot of the present problem of fuel poverty,
\nand pensioners being killed as a result of hypothermia,
\ncould be alleviated by increasing the Winter Fuel Payment<\/a> from
\nthe present derisory level of just \u00a3200 a year.<\/p>\n

Such measures would be cheaper for us all in both the long and
\nshort term too.<\/p>\n

In the long term all these measures might help to cut down our
\ntaxes and other expenditures,
\nand increases the amount which is paid out in pensions.<\/p>\n

Thus in turn it would alleviate the whole set of problems which come with fuel poverty.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
