{"id":606,"date":"2015-10-25T08:33:31","date_gmt":"2015-10-25T08:33:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.theproject.me.uk\/?p=606"},"modified":"2018-04-02T17:22:45","modified_gmt":"2018-04-02T16:22:45","slug":"a-little-light-reading","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.theproject.me.uk\/?p=606","title":{"rendered":"A little Light Reading."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><i><b>Behind the Headlines.<\/b><\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b>To be a really effective campaigner one has to read a lot, and that means getting away from what&#8217;s printed as the headline news.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b>Here is just a sample of what I have been reading of late.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><i><b>New Build. <\/b><\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b>A good example of this is what has been in the press over the last couple of weeks concerns new build at Hinkley.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b>Despite all the headlines about the UK and Chinese governments signing a deal to built a new reactor at Hinkley, <a href=\"http:\/\/nfznsc.gn.apc.org\/docs\/news\/NFLA_Hinkley_UK_China_deal.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">it is far from a done deal<\/a>. EDF have still to sign such a deal, and there are lots of obstacles which need to be completed before any such contract can come in to force.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b>As to the whizzo idea of building a new reactor at Bradwell, well that&#8217;s another none starter. Just look that the flood map for the area, and then think about rising sea levels.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b>Thus the headline should have been: &#8211;<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b>Hinkley and Bradwell.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b>It&#8217;s all smoke and Mirrors.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><i><b>The Atlantic Cartier.<\/b><\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b>During October the <\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b>Bundesstelle f\u00fcr Seeunfalluntersuchung<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b>[ Federal Bureau of Maritime Casualty Investigation ]<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b>published the following: &#8211;<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.safety4sea.com\/images\/media\/2015\/BSU_-_Fire_onboard_Atlantic_Cartier_2015_10.pdf\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b>Investigation Report 99\/13\u00a0 <\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b>Serious Marine Casualty <\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b>Fire on the con-ro carrier.<\/b><\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b>ATLANTIC CARTIER on 1 May 2013 in the Port of Hamburg<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nuclearpolicy.info\/docs\/news\/NFLA_Atlantic_Cartier_concerns.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">At the time of the fire the ship was carrying uranium hexafluoride <\/a><\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b>(UF6), and flammable ethanol as a part of the cargo.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b>&#8211; Uranium Hexafluoride is highly toxic.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b>&#8211; Uranium Hexafluoride is corrosive to most metals.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b>&#8211; Uranium Hexafluoride reacts violently with water.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b>&#8211; Uranium Hexafluoride is radioactive.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b>The transport of Hex is one of the most worrying concerns which we should all have.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b>Meanwhile there are are growing worries about the Uranium Hex which is to be found at Capenhurst, and aspect of the proposed sale of Urenco.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><i><b>The <\/b><\/i><\/span><em><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><i><b>Pitchford Inquiry.<\/b><\/i><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ucpi.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\">The Pitchford Inquiry<\/a> in to Undercover Policing started in July.<\/b><\/span><b> <\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b>A<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ucpi.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/CP-ruling-FINAL.pdf\" target=\"_blank\"> first preliminary hearing<\/a> took place on October 7<sup>th .\u00a0<\/sup> <\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b>While the <\/b><\/span><strong><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b>Sixth Preliminary Hearing <\/b><\/span><\/strong><strong><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b>be heard during March.<\/b><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b>The inquiry will last for circa two and a half years.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b>It will cover many of the<a href=\"http:\/\/campaignopposingpolicesurveillance.com\/\" target=\"_blank\"> questions which activists have been asking for a long time,<\/a> but just how many of the answers we receive is very much an open question for now. <\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; Behind the Headlines.
