When is Equality not equality?<\/p>\n
When it comes to legislation to give ‘equal rights’ to
\nreligionists.<\/p>\n
A fine example of this is the UK
\n‘Employment Equality (Religion or Belief) Regulations’ 2003.<\/p>\n
The aim of this law is to prevent discrimination to individuals
\nbecause of their religionist or Philosophical beliefs.<\/p>\n
The key wording upon this legislation is: ‘ religion’ or
\n‘Similar Beliefs’.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Such ‘Similar beliefs’ might well include Paganism, Satanism,
\nor Witchcraft.<\/p>\n
Thus employers are forced to take in to account any
\nindividuals religious practices: –
\nwhat ever they may be.
\nWhile this might make many a religionist very happy: –<\/p>\n
It should also be remembered that we atheists have no set
\ndays during which we celebrate what we know to be true.<\/p>\n
While religionists can dress up & take off days during the
\nworking week to do their own thing, there are no equivalent
\ndays off work which we atheists can ever claim ‘as a right’.<\/p>\n
There are no sets of costumes or practices by which we
\natheists may be identified.<\/p>\n
Thus all that is left is our right to state that there is no
\nsuch thing as a god, but even then many a religionist will
\nargue that it is harassment to state such a truth within the
\nwork place.<\/p>\n
So much for the right of self expression!<\/p>\n
It all makes for bad law,
\n&
\nsocial injustice.<\/p>\n
While I’m in favour of anything which makes for an
\negalitarian society,
\nit does seem to me that any legislation such as the above,
\ndoes in practice discriminate against all atheists,
\nFreethinkers, Humanists, & Agnostics.<\/p>\n
It is about time that such bad legislation be challenged in
\nthe courts,
\n&
