Heating Norms
I’ve been reading some of the very pessimistic views concerning climate change, and thinking back to what was normal whilst I was a child in the 1950s.
That is before the effects of the clean Air Act came into being.
Homes were heated by coal, and coal deliveries were a normal.
Then we had paraffin heaters, with cans of paraffin in our homes.
100 watt lighbulbs were normal. No energy saving bulbs were available.
There was No double glazing and condensation would produce a sheet of ice inside of the window overnight.
Other Norms
Other things which were very common included bedsits in which there was a gas cooker in the same room people slept in. That’s no longer legal.
So it shows just how things can be made much better.
Now
What we now have is very little time to push for all the other changes which need to be made.
We need to make these changes with more activists who combine life style with campaigning.
